An Attempt to be Earnest
I just want to write earnestly about my feelings right now, on the edge of something exciting. I’m not good at being honest about my feelings, but floating in this space between exhaustion and giddy anticipation has made me weird.
Heated Rivalry: Las Vegas Remix
Today is the fifth(!!!) anniversary of the release of Heated Rivalry and to celebrate I am sharing a little something. I’ve been asked quite a bit about Ilya’s thoughts and feelings during the “Las Vegas scene.” Specifically, readers have been interested to know where exactly Ilya was when Shane was waiting for him backstage at the NHL Awards. Now the question has been answered!
I Have Good News and Bad News…
Actually what I have is good news, bad news, more bad news, good news (I hope) and more bad news.
Time to Shine (and to update my blog)
By now you may have heard that I have new a book coming out in September called TIME TO SHINE. Hopefully you have also seen the beautiful illustrated cover, which I think perfectly captures the vibes of the story. I absolutely love it.
Countdown: A Smutty Shane and Ilya Short
This is a scene that got cut from The Long Game because I couldn’t elegantly fit it into the story. It was hard to cut because I think it’s a fun, sexy scene, but definitely, y’know. Indulgent. And a bit ridiculous.
Role Model
Now that Role Model is DONE and the cover has been revealed, I thought it might be a good time to tell everyone about it, and a bit about the next book, The Long Game.
Common Goal, a sequel for Shane and Ilya, and more!
So, how’s everyone’s year going? Haha, just kidding. It’s a nightmare.
But even in these, um, challenging times, I have news to share about my smutty hockey books.
The Definitive List of the 12 Best Christmas Recordings of All Time
It’s officially December which means, by my rules, it’s offically completely fine to listen to Christmas music non-stop for the next twenty-five days. Sadly, the season often finds me drearily pushing my shopping cart down the cereal aisle to the tune of a total bummer rendition of The Little Drummer Boy, or a horrifically shrill cover of Santa Baby, or, for whatever bizarre reason, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s decidedly not-a-Christmas-song, Hallelujah. There is no need for this. Not when there are so many great Christmas recordings to choose from. There are entire albums of great Christmas songs.
Halloween with ilya
It started as a tweet and now it’s a short story. This was maybe not the most productive use of my time today, but once I got the idea in my head I needed to get it out. So here is a hastily-written short about Ilya giving out candy on Halloween. I imagine this taking place a few weeks before the dinner party with Hayden that the other short story is about. Ilya’s first Halloween in Ottawa, living in a house rather than a fancy Boston penthouse.
Enjoy (if you dare…)
Heated Rivalry - Deleted Scenes
All right, you asked for it. Here are some scenes (and parts of scenes) that didn’t make it into Heated Rivalry. This is the stuff that my editor didn’t even see, so any mistakes are my own.
a very late heated rivalry post
I have clearly done a very bad job keeping this blog up-to-date. I haven’t posted anything since December?! A whole other book has come out since then! Come on, Rachel.
I owe everything
I owe everything I am to the female hockey journalists who wrote the 1993 'Hockey Digest' list of the most attractive NHL players.
Most sportsman like
My love of hockey was so strong and pure growing up that it was torture watching the boys in my class chase that dream. None of them joined that negligible percentage of the population that gets to play in the NHL, or even play hockey professionally, of course, but they did get to at least try. The dream was a big part of their lives, and I felt left out.
